Lyons Junior Boys are eliminated from the Lyons Youth Tourney
Appling County, the team that sent Lyons into the losers bracket in the first round of the 45th annual Lyons Youth Tournament, eliminated the local junior boys (14 and under) from the tourney with a 4-2 win. Lyons took a 2-1 lead by scoring a run in the fourth on a ground ball to second by Alex Akins, who went 4-9 in the tourney with five RBI's, and an unearned run in the fifth. Appling countered by scoring three unearned runs on three Lyons errors in the fifth. In the sixth Lyons put two runners on base for Brett Jernigan and he hit the ball deep to left field, but it was caught to end the game. Audio story In other action, the midget (12 and under) tourney opened up with Lyons winning a forfeit game over Ware County and then being no-hit by Appling in a 9-0 loss.
After losing to Appling 5-2 in the first round, Lyons beat Evans County 7-3 and Wayne County 9-3 to stay alive in the double-elimination tourney. Lance Mosley went 1-2 and singled in two runs in the sixth in the win over Evans. Lyons scored four in the sixth to break the game open. Jackson Warnock also had a pinch-hit RBI single. In their second game on Friday against Wayne County, Lyons came back from a 3-2 deficit by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fifth. Alex Akins singled in two runs, Evan Adams hit a sacrifice fly that brought in one and Tyler Wilds, Ryan Davis and Mosley each singled in one run.
