The Championship

Wayne County won the title without losing a game and in the championship matchup the girls from Jesup came-from-behind and beat Ware County 9-6. Earlier in the day, Ware knocked off Dublin.   

Second Day

Lyons 9, Murray County 8 (8 Innings)

What a ball game! Lyons and Murray dueled into extra innings and Lyons won it with one out in the bottom of the eighth when Dana Roberts hit the ball to the right side of the infield with two strikes and a runner at third.

Lyons took a 3-0 lead in the first on a two run double by Dayo Waller. Lyons scored four more in the third inning on Ashley Cruz's RBI hit and Victoria Jordan's two run single. Lyons tied the game at seven in the seventh on a RBI hit by Cruz. Audio Story

Dublin 15, Lyons 3 (3 Innings)

Dublin ended Lyons run in the tourney with a three inning victory. Cruz went 2-for-2 and drove in two runs for Lyons.

In other action: Vidalia shutout Walton 12-0, but then lost to Moultrie 6-3 to end their stay in the tourney. Dublin knocked Moultire out of the tourney with a 7-5 victory. Ware County defeated Dublin 13-3.

In the winners bracket: Wayne County beat Moultrie 15-7 and Ware 16-2 to move into Saturday as the tourney's only undefeated team.  

On Saturday at 10 a.m. Dublin will play Ware County with the winner moving on to the championship matchup versus Wayne County beginning at 11:15.            

First Round Games

Moultrie 16, Lyons 6 (5 Innings)

Moultrie scored five runs in the first while Lyons tallied three. In the second Moultrie score three and Lyons two. So Lyons was in the game and trailing  8-5 after three. But then the Heat from Moultrie scored three in the fourth and five in the fifth to win by the 10-run rule.

Ainsley Davis (two singles and a double and a triple) and Cheyenne Tillman (four singles) each had four hits for Moultrie. Kasi Ricks and Abbie Weeks each added three hits. Aryn McGowan, Madison Hart, Ashley Cruz, and Dayo Walker each had two hits for Lyons. Audio Story

Ware County 11, Vidalia 1 (5 innings)

Vidalia took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI grounder by Claire Helms, but then Ware pulled away by scoring five runs in the third inning and four in the fourth.

Tara Blount had three hits for Ware and Brennan Merritt had two for Vidalia

In other action: Dublin beat Walton County 13-8 and Wayne County shut out Murray County 11-0.

On Friday Lyons will play Murray County and Vidalia meets Walton County. Both games will be played at 10 a.m. Y-101 Radio will be broadcasting the Lyons game.

In the winners bracket Moultrie plays Wayne County and Ware County takes on Dublin at 11:15 a.m.      

Lyons Mite All-Stars

Lyons Mite Girls to host state tourney  

The Lyons Mite Girls (10 and under) have come a long way this summer. They lost six of their first eight games, but lately they have been playing .500 ball and they finished third in the 10-team Telfair Tournament. This team returns only two players from last summer- 3B Kara Graham and 1B Madison Hart. SS Aryn McGowan anchors an improving defense.  Audio Story  

   
   

Vidalia Mite All-Stars

Vidalia Mite Girls are poised to make a run for a state title 

The Vidalia Mite Girls, who beat Dublin 6-1 to win the District 1 Championship, have been practicing twice a day in preparation for the state tourney. The girls work on their defense in the morning and on their hitting in the afternoon. Bailley Strickland starts at second base and Brenan Merritt plays short.  Audio Story
