Lady Crusaders realize their dream
The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Lady Crusaders had to play four games in 10 hours to make their dream of winning a state championship a reality. Senior pitcher Morgan Calhoun pitched 26 of the 28 innings that the Lady Crusaders played and in the game that decided the title, Calhoun pitched all seven innings. The first six were scoreless, but in the bottom of the seventh inning, leading 2-0, Crisp Academy put two runners on and scored a run on an error to cut the margin to one run. Calhoun ended the game catching a pop up to secure RTCA's second softball state championship with a 2-1 victory.
The Lady Crusaders scored their two runs in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Hannah Dees reached on a bunt single, Calhoun reached on an error, Alex Stanley hit a grounder that put runners on second and third and then catcher Jenna Delk singled to left center field to drive in both runners.
