The Toombs County Bulldogs made a strong run to get into the playoffs, winning eight straight region games to finish third in Region 4. But for the third time in the last eight years their season ended with a first round sweep by the Cook County Hornets. Cook won 13-2 in five innings in game one and 6-2 in game two.

The Hornets broke away early in game one when they scored five runs in the first inning. Cook County added three more in the second and five in the third to end the game one drama quickly.  Shortstop Brandon Mainor went 3-3 with five runs batted in. The senior hit two home runs, a three-run shot over the left center field fence in the the second inning and a two-run homer over the right center field fence in the third. In the two games combined Mainor was 6-6 and he made some fine plays in the field as well. Josh Barks went 2-3 with two doubles. The Bulldogs scored their runs in the fourth when Neal Rodgers rounded into a 5-4-3 double play scoring Jared Allen and in the fifth when Trey Mosley led off with a solo home run over the center field fence.

In a stay alive game the Bulldog battled Cook with senior Jared Allen starting the game on the mound. The Bulldogs jumped to an early 2-0 lead on a first inning double to right center field by catcher Justin Adams which scored both Allens- James and Jared. Jared, who escaped from three bases loaded jams in a 2-0 shut out at Dodge County, finagled his way out of a bases loaded situation in the second inning with a pop up to second baseman Dustin Wright after the Hornets had scored an unearned run to cut the Bulldogs' lead to 2-1. In the the third inning left fielder Cody Williams threw out Kaleb Cowart, who had reached on a ground rule double, at home plate as he was trying to score on a single by Will Wright. A walk and a hit batsmen loaded up the bases and with two outs Allen escaped, again, with a fly ball to center.

Cook tied the game in the fifth inning on a leadoff home run down the right field line by Cowart. In the sixth Ty Goff and Cowart hit one-out singles and that ended Allen's stint on the mound. Trey Mosley took the hill and his first pitch was belted over the fence by Will Wright for a three run homer that put Cook up 5-2.

I didn't have alot of time to take pictures, but maybe you did. Does anybody have some better shots of the Bulldogs trip to Cook County? If so, would you like to share them with Toombs Now? E-mail them to me and I will post them.
