2008 season

Lady Bulldogs tourney run ended by Appling

 

 

Playing in a tournament in Glennville, the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team breezed through pool play winning their third straight game, 12-3 over Tattnall County, on Saturday. Elizabeth Kirkley went 4-5 with four runs scored and Corneshia Courouthers drove in six runs. Samantha Dowd pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts. However, in the quarterfinals of the tourney Appling County beat the Lady Bulldogs 10-4. On Friday, the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team opened up the season with two complete game two-hit victories. Senior Samantha Dowd pitched TCHS to a 4-2 win over Liberty County by tossing a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks. Corneshia Courouthers had a triple. In the second game the Lady Bulldogs beat Claxton 9-2 as sophomore Caitlin Vinson threw her two-hitter and struck out 11.     

Lady Bulldogs wrap up summer season

The Toombs County Lady Bulldog Softball team ended  their summer slate of games by beating Montgomery County 17-3 on their home field. Samantha Dowd pitched five of the seven innings and allowed just one-hit with 10 strikeouts. Y-101 Story  Watch highlights Video

 Five Lady Bulldogs are honored

Five Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball players were honored for their play during the 2007 season. Senior Brittany Wilds (pitcher/first base) junior Corneshia Courouthers (catcher) and junior Samantha Dowd (pitcher/third base) were voted to the All-Region 4 team. The Mincey sisters, senior Jessica (shortstop) and sophomore Brianna (second base) were both honorable mention.   Y-101 Audio Story  

Lady Bulldogs eliminated in South Sectionals

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs lost to Jeff Davis 3-0 in a first round game. The game was scoreless going to the sixth inning. Elizabeth Kirkley had two doubles, Jessica Mincey two singles and Brianna Mincey had a single. Samantha Dowd pitched the game for the Lady Bulldogs. Toombs County will play Metter at 10 a.m. on Saturday in a stay alive game. Metter lost to Berrien County 16-0. Pierce County edged Vidalia 3-1. Coach Elaine Allen talks about the game  Audio

Bleckley 0 

Lady Bulldogs beat Bleckley 1-0 again

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs beat Bleckley County 1-0. Sam Dowd pitched a three-hitter and Brianna Mincey scored the game's only run in the third when she hustled in from third on a wild pitch. Earlier in the season Dowd beat Bleckley 1-0 and she drove in the game's only run.  Audio

 Lady Bulldogs lose to Bacon County

The Toombs County Lady  Bulldog softball team was trying to bust out of a five game losing streak, but instead three unearned runs helped Bacon County win 3-2 in Lyons on Monday. Samantha Dowd drove in both of the Toombs County runs with a single in the second that scored Jessica Mincey, who had doubled, and Dowd hit a grounder to short that tied the game at two in the fourth. Vidalia takes first rivalry game

The Vidalia Lady Indians scored two early runs and four late ones to beat the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs 6-0 in a softball game in Lyons. Winning pitcher Brooke McKie allowed four hits and one walk and struck out eight. Toombs County pitching of Brittney Wilds and Samantha Dowd allowed only two hits, but eight Lady Indians walked and two were hit by a pitch. Vidalia is 2-0 in Region 4 while Toombs County is 1-2.  Audio Story

Bleckley Co.  0 

TCHS softball team wins 1-0 at Bleckley County 

Samantha Dowd pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and drove in the game's only run with a base hit in the second inning as the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs won a Region 4 game at Bleckley County. Dowd talks about the Lady Bulldogs win.  Audio   

Tattnall Co. 3

TCHS 2 

In a game heard on Y-101 Radio, Tattnall County nipped Toombs County 3-2 in softball. The Lady Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the early innings. Tiffany Simmons hit the ball to the right side of the infield to score the first run and Jessica Mincey tripled and scored on a wild pitch. Tattnall scored one in the 5th and two in the 6th. Brittney Wilds pitched five innings and struck out 10, walked three and allowed two hits. JV game- Toombs County 12, Tattnall 5  Audio Story  

 

Lady Bulldogs are no-hit in practice game loss to Pierce

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs were no-hit in a 3-0 seven inning home practice game against Pierce County. Three Lady Bulldog pitchers allowed only five hits, four of them were stroked by Jessica Thornton who pitched the first four innings of the no-hitter. Thornton struck out eight batters. Brittney Wilds, Samantha Dowd (pictured left) and Caitlin Vinson pitched for TCHS. The three stuck out ten batters.  Watch Video  Audio Story

Lady Bulldogs prepare for 2007 season

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs softball team has been practicing and playing scrimmage games against other schools in preparation for the start of the season in August. The Lady Bulldogs have just one returning senior (Brittany Wilds), but they have a quality junior class and a lot of young players. The team features quality pitching and good defense.
