Deja vue- The Irish pull away in the 2nd half
|
Been there, done that. Since the 2007 season the Toombs County Bulldogs have now made three trips to Dublin's Shamrock Bowl and the result has been the same. The Bulldogs are in the game at half and then suddenly in the second half the Irish always seem to break away and win. Dublin did it again with a 35-19 victory.
After Dublin scored on a 51-yard pass play on a Rob East throw to Cedric O'Neal with 3:11 to play in the first quarter, the Bulldogs struck with a big play less than two minutes later- a 61-yard pass from Ryan Davis to Malcolm Burley. Burley ran the final 50-yards with the Irish chasing.
The Bulldogs' aggressive defense controlled the first half as "The Crew" made 11 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Toombs County's D put the Dawgs up 13-7 when Kelo Bagley intercepted a pass and returned it 35-yards for a touchdown with 5:18 to play in the second quarter. The snap on the PAT was bad and the Bulldogs try for two was unsuccessful.
Both teams fumbled and lost the ball late in the first half and the Irish scored after recovering a TCHS fumble at the Bulldog 35. Donovan McCloud's TD run put Dublin up 14-13 at half.
The Irish opened the second half, just like they did in 2009, with a long kick off return. McCloud ran it back 95-yards to give Dublin a 21-13 lead. The Irish built up a 35-13 lead on touchdown runs by Maurice Martin (51-yards) amd O'Neal. Toombs scored a TD with no time left on the clock when Dublin botched a punt snap and Bulldog defensive tackle Kenneth McClendon ran the ball in for six. Y-101 Story

Aggressive Dawgs drop ECI
 |
| The powerful green shoe. Prior to game Jesus Machado booted two 45-yard field goals. During game he kicked 68 yards worth of field goals- a 40-yarder and a 28-yarder. |
|
The Toombs County Bulldogs theme for 2010 has been hard work equals success. The Bulldogs followed through on that in a 26-15 scrimmage win over ECI in the Pit in Lyons. The Bulldogs aggressive defense did yield a short touchdown run and a passing touchdown in the first two eight-minute periods of the six period game. However, with the contest on the line in the final two varsity periods Toombs County turned up the pressure on defense. The Hamptons, senior O'Shea and sophomore Tamond, spent a lot of time in the ECI backfield. The younger Hampton had three tackles behind the line of scrimmage and each had at least one sack. Hakeem Mobley also applied plenty of pressure up the middle from his nose tackle position. Y-101 Story on Defense
On offense senior Marktavious Dasher scored two touchdowns. His first came on a 6-yard run down the home sideline that pulled the Bulldogs to within a point, 8-7, with 3:49 to play in the second period. Dasher's second TD required power and a dive to cover the 4-yards that gave Toombs a 23-15 lead in the fifth period. Junior kicker Jesus Machado displayed his powerful left foot by kicking a 28-yard field goal near the end of the second period and a 4-yarder midway through the final period. Machado also nailed both his PAT attempts. Y-101 Story on Offense
The Bulldogs third touchdown was scored during the Junior Varsity segment which consisted of both teams running offensive plays for a period. Freshman Kenny Goethe escaped and broke several tackles on his 55-yard touchdown run.

Sharpe scores the NFL's 1st TD
|
Former Toombs County Bulldog Brandon Sharpe has only been a Dallas Cowboy for about a week. However, in his first NFL action Sharpe scored the first touchdown in the first NFL preseason game of 2010. In the fourth quarter Sharpe reached back over his shoulder and intercepted a pass at the 6-yard line and then dove in to the end zone to give Dallas a 16-7 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
Sharpe, who played defensive end at Texas Tech, has been moved to inside linebacker since joining the Cowboys. His first NFL action came in the second quarter. He played on first and second downs and also on special teams on both punt and kickoff coverage. Watch Brandon's pick Video |
